“Experiences”

Definition:

I use this term somewhat interchangeably with “qualia” (though it’s a bit more broad). The wikipedia definition of qualia works pretty well: “instances of subjective, conscious experience.” Basically, I use it to refer to every aspect of the experience of being, be it sensory qualia or the experience of coming to a realization.

Correction

As I was writing Linguistic Corrections + LessWrong, it came to my attention that this definition needed a bit of refinement. I split it into two terms: Logical Experiences, and Illogical Experiences. The union of these two sets is the original definition, but the boundary between the two is qualitative. I explain why in Linguistic Corrections, but an experience is “logical” if it is reasonably expressible using logic approximation.

These two overlap heavily with the distinction between reasoned thought and lived experience (in a normative sense), but there is sufficient difference that these terms warrant defining.
